Chris Pearmund, Winemaker
About the Chris Pearmund — Initially a chef for top restaurants in California and England, Chris Pearmund decided wine was his calling. In 1985, he made his way to Northern Virginia and cut his teeth working his way up the food chain, first working as the manager and buyer for the Black Walnut wine shop in Middleburg. By 1990, he was working at a 5,000 case production winery and became its winemaker from 1991 to 1996. For the next two years, he was the wine buyer and store manager for Total Beverage.
Chris then decided it was time to branch out on his own. Since 1999, he has opened a winery a year for other vitners (including Unicorn Winery, Mediterranean Cellars, and his latest Clifton Wine Cellar.) He then opened two wineries to produce his signature wines: Pearmund Cellars in 2003, and The Winery at La Grange in 2005. Coming in 2009 is another grand idea: An urban craft winery, where anyone with a passion for wine can learn to be a vitner.
They’ll learn from the best. Chris is a nationally certified wine judge by the American Wine Society, has taught the Higher Certificate Education course for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Masters of Wine program in London, and has organized and taught courses for both amateurs and professionals in wine appreciation.
How Inkandescent PR Helped — Chris and his partner, business guru Ray Summerell, have hired Inkandescent to work on their new project. As soon as it’s time to let the proverbial cat out of the bag, we’ll let you know what these two wine masters are up to. Stay tuned for more!
